Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp

Port Blair, Jan 23: Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an international program that was created by Rotary International to encourage strong leadership in youth. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid camp to develop and enhance leadership skills through activities conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect.

The RYLA 2012 was named LAKSHYA -The Focus and was be held from the 20th January 2012 to 23 rd January 2012 wherein students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Pondicherry University, Industrial Training Institute would be participating. The venue was KVK Hostel of CARI at Sippighat with about 45 participants.

The RYLA camp 2012 concluded with young minds, from different colleges of A & N Islands, going back with fond memories and a sense of nostalgia as well. The RYLA valedictory function was very well organized by the club. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was District Governor (Rotary club) of 3291 Rotarian. Angshuman Bondopadhyay from Kolkatta,West Bengal along with senior officials of the district and the GSE team from Brazil.

Every RYLA includes the following topics of Fundamentals of leadership; Ethics of positive leadership; Importance of communication skills in effective leadership; Conflict management and problem solving ; Building self-esteem and self confidence Elements of community and global citizenship and Rotary’s purpose of service to the community and world. RYLA began in Rotary District 5340 in 1972 with 100 participants and has since grown to include more than 300 participants annually.
