Free Rural Dental camp conducted by Rotary Club of Port Blair

A free rural dental camp was organized at Wandoor village by Rotary Club of Port Blair on 30/10/11, wherein Rotarian Dr. Dinesh, Dental Surgeon examined the patients. The camp evoked good response from people of the surrounding areas as a total of 57 cases were attended to using disposable dental diagnostic kits. Overall 22 tooth extractions were done at the camp and free medicines, tooth brushes, tooth pastes were distributed to all the patients. Three cases of pre-cancerous lesion were detected and proper guidance was given to the patients to stop paan chewing habits and advised further treatment. Two case of Oral Submucous fibrosis (OSMF) grade II  was also detected while screening the patients, others had gingival problems and dental caries and were told to have periodic check up.

The main objective of the camp is to educate people especially children and to reach out to the under privileged sections of the society on the prevalence of dental diseases in rural areas and to motivate and cultivate the importance of oral  hygiene. Patients were handed out Dental awareness pamphlets and demonstrations were given to educate the importance of dental health.

Rtn. Zakir Jadwet President, Rtn. Girish Arora , Secretary along with other members of the Rotary Club of Port Blair were present in large numbers to oversee the successful conduct of the camp. Pradhan of Humfreygunj & Wandoor village Smti. Susheela Mondal was also present to oversee all arrangements for the smooth functioning of the camp and lauded the initiative taken by Rotary club. Rotary Club of Port Blair has plans to conduct more such camps in future in different rural areas of South Andaman.
